Puppy Classes

Welcoming a new puppy in to your family is such an exciting time and our experts are here to help you with each challenge along the way.

Our puppy training classes are designed to provide all the essential early training a young puppy needs, as well as preparing their humans with the knowledge to raise a happy, healthy dog you can enjoy for years to come.

Early puppy training is key to giving your puppy the best chance at growing in to a well behaved and social family companion, so start training with your puppy early.

PUPPY preschool

These classes are designed to train puppies on proper manners and obedience foundations to help them become a good canine neighbour that you can take with you anywhere. We will cover exercises, like polite leash walking, not jumping up when greeting, coming when called and much more.

This 6 week series run once per week for ~ 50 minutes.

$270 - 6 weeks

We strongly encourage enrolling in both programs. The curriculum in each of these programs is unique and when combined they will provide the ultimate tool kit to navigate these early stages of development with your puppy.

  • September, 3 - Foundations for Recall & Dog Socialization: Recall games and calm exposure to unfamiliar people and puppies build the foundation of a puppy who wants to check in and come back to you. Owners also get their first lesson in reading puppy body language, so they can tell rowdy-but-welcome play from a puppy who's in over their head.

  • September, 10 - Foundations for Mouthing, Nipping & Handling: This class tackles two of the most common puppy frustrations at once: sharp puppy teeth and squirmy handling. Puppies practice being gentle around hands, food, and toys, while owners get comfortable doing a full nose-to-toes exam — the same skill that makes every future vet and grooming visit easier.

  • September, 17 - Socialization to New Objects & Confidence Games: Puppies meet a rotating set of everyday-but-unfamiliar objects while practicing the habit of noticing something new and checking back in with their person. Together, these build a puppy who can take novelty in stride rather than reacting to it.

  • September, 24 - Socialization & Exposure to Novel Appearances & Sounds: Adult dogs who react to hats, uniforms, umbrellas, or sudden noises usually never met them calmly as puppies. This class provides that exposure gently, while the fear response is easiest to shape.

  • October, 1 - Crate & Confinement Basics — Independence Skills: A puppy who's relaxed in a crate or pen and comfortable being briefly alone is protected from separation-related distress later. This class builds both skills through short, upbeat repetitions. 

  • October, 8 - Socialization & Exposure to New Surfaces & Environments: This class covers new footing and new movement — plus a game that teaches puppies (and owners) how to recover quickly from an unexpected startle, which matters far more long-term than avoiding every startle in the first place.

  • October, 15 - Cooperative Care Foundations This class teaches puppies that they have a voice in their own handling — a small set of foundational skills that make every future exam, treatment, or grooming session calmer, because the puppy has practice communicating "I'm ready" and "I need a pause," and has learned that pausing is always honoured. 

  • October, 22 - Enrichment Activities & Problem-Solving: A puppy who's learned to sniff out a snack, work a puzzle, or experiment with a new object is a puppy who self-soothes and self-entertains for life — and tired brains make for calmer puppies, often more effectively than tired legs. This class is also full of ideas owners can recreate at home.

Skills & Manners - Level 1 & 2

If your dog has some skills, but isn’t very reliable with distractions, or if your dog is brand new to training, start or re-start here. Our Skills & Manners Program is conveniently split into two levels, to allow you to break up the schedule and complete it at a pace that works for you.  Each level includes 6 weekly classes.

Recommended age 20 weeks and up. For puppies 19 weeks or younger, please start with Puppy Training.

LEVEL 1 - $270 6 CLASSES

We want to make training your dog the best experience possible, so our Skills & Manners Level 1 classes are held in a distraction free indoor environment, until you are ready for a bigger challenge. That way you, and your dog, can both focus fully on the obedience skills we teach. When you master Level 1, your dog will be able to sit, stay, come when called, walk on a loose leash, and so much more. Our trainers will even help you solve any problem behaviors your dog might have.

LEVEL 2 - $270 6 CLASSES

In Skills & Manners Level 2, we continue to work on the skills gained in Level 1, but we add in some brand new challenges. You and your dog will work on your skills with some distractions in the environment, and some obstacles for you to overcome. Both of you will love conquering the challenges, because the result will be a well-mannered dog, who is mastering self-control.

We focus not just on teaching skills, but on teaching you how to teach, guide, and communicate effectively with your dog.

*Dogs must be comfortable being around other dogs and people. Excited and playful is normal behavior; lunging and aggression towards others is better worked on with a private training session before enrolling in a group class. Excessive barking that cannot be curbed by the instructor may result in removal from class and referral for private training. If you have questions as to whether your dog would be benefit from this class, we'd be happy to discuss.

**All dogs must be up to date on their vets schedule for Parvo/Distemper, Bordetella and Rabies

Each class is once a week for ~ 50 minutes.

Good Dog’s In The City | Real World Practice

This is the perfect next step for graduates of our Skills & Manners Level 2 course who want to practice their dog’s skills in a real-world setting. This drop-in style class takes place in local parks around the Tri-Cities, helping dogs build confidence and remain engaged around distractions like people, other dogs and new environments!
